"Push Play," utterly new and yet innately familiar, hits anyone who lived in that decade with the memory of a car-seat-dancing, one-hit wonder that dominated the FM dial, from the summer at the pool through every pep rally and football practice and past homecoming. But for many who have played it, nothing sutures together Firewatch's sense of place and time like "Push Play," by Joy Chun and Nate Bosley, a Louisiana couple who fell in love four years ago while concocting their marvelously hallucinated 1987 pop act called Cheap Talk. The game's dialogue references the 1988 wildfires at Yellowstone National Park, a disaster that became a cultural landmark for those living in the Interior West in that decade. The song is "Push Play." It's the dancey, peppy, poppy tune blaring from a boombox while two tipsy teens go skinny dipping, and the player's story in Firewatch unfolds in the solitude of Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest.įirewatch's visual props include made-up hardback books with dust jackets that are dead ringers for the usual potboilers found in a vacation home. But it all lingers with the quality of real memories because, like the late 1980s, everyone is still playing and talking about the song they heard up at the lake. What do you think about this announcement? Would you like to see the jump of Firewatch to a different medium or not? And if you have not read it, you should check our Firewatch review, courtesy of Richard Donaldson. The summer of 1989 is long over, and so are the events of Firewatch, the mystery-adventure video game set in that year, which launched just two weeks ago. If done correctly, those tunes of solitude and mystery could resonate well within the boundaries of a cinema. While nothing can replace your own Henry, or the experience of playing a certain Henry, Firewatch still makes for an evocative setting. Good adaptations are those ones who reinvent a story and offer a new prism to it, after all. However, we still do not know who will lead this movie or what kind of angle they will try to achieve. If there is any chance that the two actors would partner up in the adaptation, that would be interesting. As a result, one of the game’s best parts is the dialogue that happen between these two, voiced respectively by Telltale’s The Walking Dead’s Cissy Jones and Mad Men’s Rich Sommer. That contact only exists through their walkie-talkies. Once in the Wyoming wilderness, his only contact remains another ranger by the name of Delilah, who both guides and comforts him. With it we jump into the skin of a troubled man called Henry, who takes a role as forest ranger to escape the grayness of his life back home. That’s always a question, isn’t it? Firewatch is, above all, an introspective gaming experience. We can’t wait to see what we make together.” Well, we can’t either. “It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. “When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate and produce incredible stories,” he said. Studio founder Sean Vanaman has spoken about this deal himself. Not a bad feat for Campo Santo’s first game. Firewatch was released back on February for all platforms and since then it has sold almost one million copies worldwide. The news was published today via The Hollywood Reporter. Indie developer Campo Santo has managed to attract the attention of the production company Good Universe and, as a result, we might see Firewatch on movie theaters in the future. Their aim? To bring this tale of Wyoming wilderness to big screens worldwide. Good Universe is teaming up with Campo Santo, the creators of the acclaimed Firewatch.
